There are so many gifts that a garden gives us. The 10th gift my garden has given me is grace. The garden brings out the best in me. It teaches me how to be in the moment and patiently wait for the future.

The 9th gift that my garden gives me is that it is true. A plant cannot be hurried, coerced or tricked into creation. The garden runs on its own timetable by nature’s laws. If you are not true to your plants if you try to cheat them or trick them the will not create for you. Their rules, their time tables; we are just the caregivers.

Sometimes things go awry in my garden and I have to be tolerant of imperfection and the time it takes to get things right again. Mother nature has her own time table and I must play by her rules. The 6th gift the garden gives me is tolerance.

The 5th gift my garden has given me is beauty. Every single day the garden radiates beauty. Some of my favorite garden scenes are the dew drops on the edges of the leaves, the perfect spiral in the center of the lettuce plants, the geometry of a spider web and the perfection of a newly opened squash blossom with its brilliance and open invitation to the passing honey bee.
